The next morning he and his companion reported disturbed dew and large barefoot-like tracks in the yard.

They then found grouse beds, piled feathers and a leg, plus one large track and a faint trail leading into the woods. The witness also noted an unusual odor and interpreted the sign as the creature hunting grouse.
