The witness spent a night alone in a familiar forest to think through personal troubles. After a sheriff left, loud crashing came down a hill and something stopped behind a tree about twenty feet away, breathing loudly while two dogs stared transfixed. The witness retrieved a handgun from a car, threatened the presence, rescued the dog, drove to safety, then returned with headlights to see a large black hairy arm gripping the tree before leaving.

Two relatives jogging in the forest encountered a creature that ran out in front of them on the trail. They stopped while it growled at them, then it walked into the woods. They later contacted the witness after being laughed at when telling others.
