The witness took a boat with family to Shell Island and walked inland from the beach toward dense forest. About 7 yards from the treeline he heard a loud scream-screech, looked up, and saw a large brown mass moving right through the woods for about a second. He ran back to the beach and told family, who did not believe him.

The witness and three relatives were hog hunting at night from two positions separated by several hundred yards. Around midnight they heard bipedal footsteps, grunting, whistling, whoops and reciprocal tree knocks, smelled a strong foul odor, and had small sticks thrown at their position. After a shot was fired into the ground, heavy running was heard moving toward the second position where glowing eyes were seen, and the group left around 2 a.m.

They noticed movement near the shoreline and saw a very large dark upright object that briefly raised an arm and moved behind conifer trees. The observation lasted a few minutes as the car moved, with the dark figure standing out against snow and sunlight. The witness first thought it was a man but concluded a man could not have walked that slope in deep snow so easily.
