Two people driving home separately at night each reported seeing a large shadowy figure by the highway slip into the woods about a half-mile from home. They compared notes after arriving home and realized both had seen the same thing, but could provide no details beyond its large size and shadowy appearance. He saw a very tall, reddish figure moving downhill about 200 yards away for about five seconds, initially mistaking it for a skier but noticing no skis or tracks. The figure was described as about a foot taller than the 7-foot-8-inch pole, brown on top with gray speckled lower areas, moving hunched over and scratching its back, with a strong skunk and manure-like odor. After watching for several minutes, the witness saw it take two steps into the nearby woods.

The figure stood motionless after noticing the witness, then vanished during a brief 4-5 second glance away. A later size-comparison photo suggested the figure was much larger than the witness.

The witness said it did not move like a deer and was not a deer or bear.
