In early fall 1981 the witness and two friends rode bikes back to a stream in the battlefield woods to retrieve rock chips. They saw a dark, hairy figure bent over in the stream that stood upright, turned toward them, and then ran silently north along the stream on two legs. It then stepped over a barbed-wire fence and walked unhurried into the woods.

The witness was driving on a dirt road near Prescott at dusk when a large ape-like animal appeared moving parallel to the road just inside the tree line. The witness braked to a stop and watched it walk through a gap in the trees about 100 meters away for about 10 seconds before it disappeared into the forest. The animal was described as tall, very muscular and reddish-brown with longer arm hair and little or no neck, and it never looked toward the car.

The figure looked in for about a minute, then walked around the house into the woods as the humming resumed. A search the next morning found no tracks in the hard-packed dirt.

The witness whimpered, the mother entered and the figure left; in the morning plowed vegetation and footprints were reportedly seen.

After about a minute, the witness turned and saw a furry figure about six feet away, visible from the waist up above a drop-off. A very large gray-haired bipedal creature emerged from bushes about 15 yards ahead, paused to look at them, then crossed the road and continued up a hill into the woods. The companion locked the doors and did not want to follow on foot.

Around mid-summer 1981, the witness was riding a bicycle home in the early morning hours ahead of a companion. Near an intersection he looked back and saw a whitish object moving quickly from one side of a barbed-wire fence to the other into woods, knocking branches aside. He did not get a clear view and first thought of a horse, but on revisiting the site the next day concluded a horse could not have moved that way through the dense cover.
