The witness was walking in a power line cut in the early afternoon when loud wood-on-wood knocks were heard from both sides of the clearing, seeming to answer each other. The witness also found a large grassy bedding depression with a very strong unfamiliar odor nearby. No other witnesses were present.

The witness was searching for relics with metal detectors in a swampy coastal area when separated from two companions. He reports hearing two loud deep ape-like whoops followed by stick-against-tree impacts about 100 yards away and then again farther toward the river. He also notes smelling a foul stench shortly before the sounds while acknowledging it might have had another source.
