Two teenagers camped on a mountain logging road were harassed by thrown sticks, loud grunting and tree-banging sounds, and a strong foul odor. When they shone a light into the woods about 25 yards away, they saw a very tall fur-covered figure that ducked behind a tree. They put out their fire and fled down the trail, saying the figure followed them most of the way back.

From about 10 yards downhill they heard vegetation rustling followed by an extremely loud, guttural, high-pitched yell that did not match any known local animal to them. A tall, wide human-like figure stepped from brush a short distance away, looked at them, then crossed the clearing toward a shed in a few strides while making a huff sound. One man got into their truck while the other backed onto the hood with a knife, and they later spent a sleepless night guarding the cabin door.

The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.

The account was relayed to the reporter by a relative of one participant, who said the participant remained frightened of that woods afterward.

Four boys were camping behind a house on a wooded hilltop above a creek drainage. During the day they heard loud, repeated bird-like and chimp-like calls approaching to within a few dozen yards, accompanied by movement in the brush, which visibly unsettled one companion. That evening they heard whistling calls across the camp for about an hour, and after most fell asleep the awake brother heard someone approach from the creek side and stand at the camp edge breathing heavily before leaving.

The witness fled back to the house as a tall dark figure ran alongside through the brush, stopping when he screamed for his father.
