The witness fled uphill along the ridge for about two and a half to three hours while the creature paced him at a distance, shook brush and tossed sticks and a small log toward him, and was seen again briefly from the chest up. As rain began the sounds grew more distant, allowing him to return to the trailhead where a search had started, and he told family he had been chased by a bear.
