Wood knock in Virginia (2019)
The witness and a friend camped in a hollow below the family home and jokingly made tree knocks and whoops. Knocks and ape-like whoops answered from multiple ridges and appeared to converse. Later something large circled camp, rushed in, stepped onto the tent tarp, made gorilla-like huffs above the tent, then left, prompting them to flee to the house and return next morning.

The witness arrived in darkness to hunt deer from a tree stand on private land. While sorting gear in the stand, a very loud prolonged scream-howl ending in a growl occurred at close range, followed by movement in a nearby pine thicket and a brief foul odor. The witness stayed in the stand until first light, then left, and later visits had no further incident.

Two people camped in a remote, heavily forested area heard prolonged, loud howls from a nearby ridge, along with heavy footsteps and crashing through brush. After briefly walking up the road to listen, they felt the source paced them and then moved closer downhill toward them. They returned to camp, kept the fire built up, and continued hearing sporadic howls and movement until they fell asleep after midnight.

A camping party arrived late at a ridgetop site and heard strange howling around 2 to 3 a.m. the first night. The next evening after dinner the dog fixated on brush by a steep drop, where one camper saw paired eyes at close range that avoided a flashlight, followed by branch breaks and a tall tree-like silhouette that walked from one side of camp to the road and later showed yellow eyeshine. The group packed hurriedly, secured the dog and lights, and drove home the same night feeling watched but not directly threatened.
