Footsteps in Tennessee (1970)
The guest described leaving a brother's farm in the evening and taking a tractor road through dark woods to avoid being driven back. Something paced the guest at a distance, pushed down fences where the guest crossed gates, then followed very close with extremely heavy footsteps that stopped when the guest stopped. After reaching pasture and pavement the sounds continued from the treeline, a tree was heard falling, and chains were heard beating at an abandoned station before the guest ran to a store.

The witness describes repeated nighttime experiences from childhood into late teens where he would fall asleep and wake up outside in a field without knowing how he got there. He recalls bruises, a sensation of being held, seeing his own body from above, a bright light in his face, feeling restrained, and hearing voices urging him to come outside. The episodes stopped after he left for college, with tapping on windows and scratching also reported.

While deer hunting alone in rows of pines, the witness heard loud crashing that approached rather than retreated. After crouching to observe, the witness noticed a strong foul odor and saw a large white furry leg about twenty-five yards away. The witness remained still for about ten minutes until the sounds receded, then returned to the vehicle without mentioning the experience for years.

The witness and a companion were walking down an old pulpwood road with a dog when they noticed a strong goat-like odor and heard rustling and a tree shaking. The witness pulled back branches and saw a tall, hair-covered biped running away downhill on two legs. The companion did not see the creature. After the witness shot a deer, the follower vocalized loudly and thrashed brush and trees while pursuing them downhill. The witness, deer hunting at dawn from a ground position below a relative, watched a tall hair-covered biped step into a fire lane, pause and look toward the witness after hearing the witness speak, then cross and wait in brush before leaving downhill. The witness later found large barefoot-like tracks and noticed a strong foul odor at the crossing site. The witness did not shoot and initially told no one.

While on a solo night escape-and-evasion march at Fort Jackson, the witness stopped at a fire-lane crossing around 2 a.m. in total darkness. Something approached, moved away after being challenged, made growling talk-like sounds, then approached again before crashing away through brush. In August 1964 two teenagers were walking back to a family cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon after dark when they heard footsteps matching their movements and a low unearthly growl. They ran through a gully to the cabin and locked themselves inside. They then heard the nearby outhouse door open and slam, saw nothing when they turned on an outside light, later heard the door fling open with crashing in brush, and spent the night upstairs.

Something unseen below the road in steep brush kept pace, breaking branches and dislodging rocks, stopping when the witness stopped and moving faster after rocks were tossed at it. Before reaching a bend where the road met the canyon, relatives arrived by car and the witness got in and left.

While waiting, the witness smelled a strong odor and saw a large hairy biped stand up nearby and walk away through thick brush, hearing snapping and leaf crunch as it left. Something large and heavy paced them on the other side of the fence, stopping when they stopped and moving when they moved. They turned back halfway and abandoned school that day to avoid meeting it where the fence ended.

Late at night in heavy fog, the witness's wife went to the outhouse and encountered something very close that she heard moving and smelled strongly, then fled back inside. The witness went outside with a gun and flashlight but could see nothing in the fog, though he heard bipedal footsteps, noticed a strong odor, and heard a low screeching sound toward a relative's home. The next morning he found a barbed-wire fence broken down with nails pulled out but found no tracks or hair.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., the witness and two companions heard screaming and metal being torn near junked cars below an old railbed. A very large presence came up the steep bank and stood close enough for its breath to be felt, accompanied by a foul odor. When the group fled toward the road it chased them with audible footsteps before stopping at the brush, and a heavy station wagon nearby was later found overturned and torn apart.
