Follow-up reconnaissance found sharpened sticks staked across a game trail, tracks along a nearby river, and a very tall teepee structure the next day.

Around two in the morning one unzipping the tent heard something massive right outside that ran past with enough force to shake the tent and fled into the forest, waking the other.
