The witness was spending the weekend at a friend's house when the group heard loud high- and low-pitched screaming on a summer Saturday night. Three of them walked toward a field near a river with a flashlight and saw red eyes in the brush while hearing limbs breaking, then ran back to the house. Screaming reportedly continued for hours, and the next midday they found a snapped vine, bark torn high on a tree, disturbed ground, and a partial large heel print.

A black, bipedal figure then stepped out and walked quickly across the clearing. The witness left without checking for tracks, and a companion later reported loose scat with grass and hair in the crossing area.

While ginseng hunting the witness heard brush moving uphill and saw glimpses of black with brush disturbed 5 to 6 feet off the ground following downhill.

Five people drove to a rural spot at night to hang out. After dogs in a hollow below barked then fell suddenly silent, the group heard movement in brush and saw a tall fur-covered figure stand at the hill edge making huffing sounds. When the driver turned on the car headlights the figure covered its face and moved behind trees as the group fled in the car.
