Close daylight sighting by a fisherman near White Sulphur Springs
The witness was fishing alone from a creek bank when he noticed a persistent decay-like odor. He then saw a reddish-brown female-appearing figure squatting across the creek near a beaver dam, apparently washing something in the water. After watching briefly, he stood and shouted, at which point the figure stood, made a short vocal sound, and left quickly. He returned to camp frightened and stayed there.

A father from the frequently visited family was yanked off his porch in front of his family and carried into the night. Blood and a large trail were found to a creek. Men recovered him badly beaten with broken bones; he later died. The men reportedly shot and buried the hairy man and kept silent from guilt.
