Face-to-face encounter at dusk along the Pacific Coast Trail
The witness and a companion were hiking back up a forested trail in the evening when they heard loud branch-breaking sounds, saw bushes sway, and smelled a strong garbage-like odor. After the forest went quiet, the witness turned and saw a very large, dark reddish-brown, ape-faced head peering over vegetation, which watched curiously for a few seconds before moving behind a tree. The companion heard the sounds and smelled the odor but did not see the figure, and the pair quickly returned to their vehicle.
Close encounter scares hunters off their campsite east of Sweet Home
While camping overnight for an archery hunt, a witness and a relative reported hearing mumbling vocalizations and footsteps around their tent for hours. The relative reported seeing a large hand press the tent wall, and both later reported seeing large upright figures near the truck and treeline, one illuminated by flashlight. After the figures continued circling the camp, the two packed the tent without breaking it down and drove away around 4 a.m.

During an overnight fishing trip the witness and his girlfriend were sleeping in a parked vehicle near a cabin when they noticed a tall hair-covered figure standing at the tree line and two smaller crouched figures near a truck. After alerting a companion in the cabin, the witness started the vehicle to shine lights on the figures, which then fled into the trees. A companion reported something running across the road as they drove, and later the group heard commotion near the lake.
One eight-footer and one three-footer seen by witness
The witness was camping with companions on a multi-day hike and looked out of a tent early in the morning to see two hair-covered figures in vegetation about seventy feet away. The larger figure reached toward branches while the smaller handled a stick, then the larger vocalized, took the smaller's hand, and both left behind trees. The companions did not see the figures, and the witness later mentioned the sighting to a ranger while leaving the area.
Witness recalls face to face encounter with creature near Myrtle Point
In 1971 the witness was alone watching TV at the parents' rural house near Myrtle Point. After hearing dogs bark, smelling a strong foul odor, and hearing footsteps on an outside plank, she saw a tall hunched hairy female figure pass a glass door. The figure stopped, turned toward her and made eye contact, after which she fainted and was later found on the floor by her parents. Her father searched outside with a flashlight but found nothing.
