The witness and a companion were camping in a tent at Alexander Springs. After playing cards until about 3 a.m., the companion fell asleep while the witness lay awake. The witness heard surrounding animal sounds fall silent, smelled a skunk-like odor, saw a tall upright shadow on the tent wall and heard a grunt-like noise. In the morning the coolers had been ransacked, and the pair left the campground early the next night after feeling uneasy.

Two identical-twin brothers hiking through ankle-deep water reached a clearing and found a creature lying on its back that flipped to all fours and sniffed them, appearing confused. It then stood on two legs and shook a tree to intimidate them as they backed out. That night at camp their stacked firewood was moved, and a neighboring camper said he saw two silhouettes moving it.
Early morning encounter during a rest stop near Florida City
Two friends drove into the Everglades park in the early morning and parked at a pine habitat to nap in their car. They were awakened by an ape-like animal looking into the tinted windows, touching the car, and then rummaging through a nearby dumpster for an extended period while emitting a strong rotten odor. The animal eventually walked away howling, and the witnesses drove to Flamingo where they reported the encounter to rangers.
Screams Heard While Camping in the Ocala National Forest
On the first night of a family camping trip in Ocala National Forest in summer 1994, the witness was awakened by a loud rattle of a bag of soda cans beside the picnic table. After she spoke, the rattling stopped and she then listened for a long period to loud, almost continuous distant screams to the north that she could not identify. In the morning nothing at the campsite was disturbed, and she did not hear the screams again the next night.

The witness's family discovered a long trail of large footprints on their hunting property on a winter weekend in 1991. They followed the trail for over a mile past creeks and cabins and through a barbed-wire fence, making plaster casts of a right and left print. They also reported finding a palm-frond bedding area and palms with hearts eaten nearby.

On a Friday night the witness parked an airboat in an oak hammock to drink coffee before frog gigging. Clumps of mud were thrown toward the boat, hitting the rudders and bow. When the witness shone a headlamp toward the source, he saw a large hairy figure staring at him and fled by boat to the middle of the next lake where he stayed until sunrise.

The witness motored by airboat at night into an oak hammock to gig frogs and stopped for coffee. After hearing tearing vegetation, ground banging and a loud shrieking scream, large clods of mud were thrown at and onto the boat. Shining a headlamp, the witness saw a huge brown-haired biped about 25 to 30 feet away pumping its arms in an aggressive display, then started the boat and fled to the middle of a nearby lake until daylight and has avoided the spot since.

The crew was camped on the bank of Blackwater Creek eating dinner when a splash revealed their cooler in the creek was missing. Shortly after, a companion returned shaken saying something had watched him from across the creek. The witness shone a spotlight across the narrow creek and the group saw a large hair-covered biped stand up, its eyes shining, block the light with its forearm, vocalize, and flee. The men then left for a motel for the remainder of the job.

Three children were camping in a tent in a backyard near a canal when they heard loud dumpster noises and deep grunting from across the canal. They then heard heavy footsteps approaching and a large splash about 50 yards away as something appeared to enter the canal toward them. They fled screaming to the house, and the adult found the tent leveled, moved from its stakes, and covered in water and mud.

The witness and two companions were exploring a swampy wooded area when they found a large steel cage trap baited with fresh meat. After noticing a foul musty odor, they heard a very loud roar from behind them and fled as a large log flew over their heads. They ran home to tell the witness's mother and stayed out of those woods for a long time.

Late one night the witness was sitting on the porch at home alone with a dog when something was heard breaking through brush. The witness went inside for a rifle, heard the thing move to the back of the house and try the door, then fled through an orange grove, fell into a swamp and lost the rifle. After looking back and seeing a creature, the witness reached the road and got help, and friends later found the back door torn off.
Tracks near Davie, Florida (1974)
About two weeks after the witness left for the summer, the sister reported that a family friend's stable had been attacked. A pony was killed, apparently by a skunk ape. Those who went to track it reported finding a single bloody footprint on a plank leading into the swamp.

A few nights later a loud scream and shotgun blasts came from a cattle rancher's property. While following a deputy's patrol car, the witnesses saw the creature run from the dark and be struck, stopping the car. It got up limping, struck the hood, screamed, and left toward the swamp. At the pasture the prize bull was found dead with its torso in one place and head about 100 yards away, followed by an all-night search with dogs and helicopters that found nothing.

About a week after the first sighting, gunshots were heard from the nearby horse stable. The witness rode over and learned a large creature had grabbed a wild horse from behind. The horse kicked free, jumped the corral, and fled while the rancher shot at the creature. Next day the horse showed hand-like pressure marks, not claw scratches, on its hindquarters.

An older woman wrote that she and her uncle set traps for disappearing oranges and caught a tiny hair-covered naked man speaking an unknown language. Police put him in an orange crate, then the house was pelted with sticks, stones and oranges by dozens of similar beings until he was released. A later police worker recalled the crate incident.
