On three consecutive nights between about 1 and 3 a.m. she heard repeated howls from the forest while awake with windows open. On the third night she also heard three loud single wood knocks followed by several minutes of thumping on the lower back deck. On the fourth night, when other people were nearby and all three listened, nothing was heard.

In April 2013 the guest took his teenage son camping at a just-opened campground off Highway 14 along the Columbia River. During a daytime walk they found an old large track, opened clam shells out of place, a fresh vine-maple twist tucked behind a fir, an 18-inch footprint beneath it, and several pushed or tossed trees. That night in camp they heard branch-breaking, felt the tarps pulled, heard splashing, felt vibration waves, and heard two wood knocks before leaving exhausted in the morning.

The witness shouted at the figure, which remained still facing away, then left the area the way they came.

The witness was driving slowly while road hunting in a gated clearcut area before dark. A large black figure stood up about 15 feet away on a steep downhill slope, showed agitated movements and cheek puffing, muttered and then screamed before leaving over a stump downhill. About an hour later the witness returned with two companions and all three heard pounding on trees and mumbled vocalizations before leaving.

Shortly after sunset he heard repeated sets of three loud strikes on trees from the forest to the south that moved between trees for about an hour. About 30 minutes after the strikes ended, a pine cone came from the direction of the forest through the campsite. He left the area the next morning.
