After noticing a large tree down across the trail, the group encountered a hair-covered primate-like creature that peered over the tree while rocks were thrown toward them. The witness froze during prolonged eye contact, felt detached and aware of the creature's curiosity, and was eventually pulled away.

The witness then noticed a tall hair-covered figure standing on the roadside berm and drove slowly past it at close range before speeding home. Years later while working in law enforcement, the witness drove to a remote trailhead to pick up a fire-watcher ranger during a dry fall with active forest fires. Concerned when the ranger did not appear after dark, he walked up the trail with a flashlight and rifle and found the ranger hiding by a rock. Together they watched a tall, long-armed figure with large reflective eyes at the far edge of a clearing for an extended period before it crouched, raked grass, backed into the woods, and circled away crashing through brush. The ranger later said he had already encountered the same figure on the trail, where it screamed at him, caused him to drop his kit, and threw his bag, which was never recovered.

A young child playing in a yard screamed as a tall hairy figure bounded toward the house and reached for the child. The mother smelled a foul odor, grabbed the child, and ran inside. Police who responded heard unrecognized howls and had rocks thrown at them.
