A boy riding a bike home in the evening felt watched and saw a gorilla-like figure close behind him. The figure grabbed the bike, threw the rider over the handlebars, stared and flexed its lips to show teeth, then the rider fled and called authorities. Authorities later found the bike with a bent frame placed high in a tree with a small amount of blood on it.

Following a heavy blood smear they recovered an empty rifle and sidearm and found body parts spread over many miles, including a torso with wide claw-like gashes, before authorities arrived and news reports blamed wolves.

The child ran home and an officer who investigated reportedly found the mangled bike in the tree with no explanation.
