The witnesses were camped overnight in a tent when they heard loud screams and later activity just outside the tent described as pulling grass. One witness shined a flashlight toward the tree line and reported large yellow eyes close together that then turned toward the woods. The witness and a companion were fishing at night when they heard knocking or banging sounds from trees. Shortly afterward rocks landed and bounced on the ground and road behind them, apparently thrown from a wooded area leading up a hill. They did not see the source, packed their gear, and left as the rock throwing stopped.

A group hiking in Salt Fork State Park in the evening reported footprints, grunts and glimpsed movement. The main witness waited ahead with two younger companions and reported seeing a tall hairy biped peeking from behind a tree and then from behind a rock. The three companions ran back to their cabin and later said all three had seen the figure.

The witness was catfishing alone at night by a spillway when he illuminated a pair of eyes watching him from across the water. He kept his light on the eyes, tried a deer snort and threw rocks, after which the eyes backed away silently and the animal walked toward brush. He left shaken, estimating the animal at about 5.5 to 6 feet tall despite never seeing its body.

A couple having a picnic hiked a short distance into the woods with their dog when they heard loud howling noises that seemed to move parallel to them. They then watched a nearly 8-foot-tall dark figure looking at them for about 10 seconds before it walked upright away deeper into the woods. After returning to their picnic area they heard very loud vocalizations again nearby, believed it had followed them, and ran for their vehicle.

Early one summer morning the witness looked out a home window before work and noticed a very large black figure moving through crab-apple trees and brush behind the house. A second, smaller black figure then moved through the same area, shaking vegetation as it ran. The larger figure stopped in thick brush and stared toward the witness at the window for less than a minute before looking toward the dog kennel and walking uphill out of sight. Fruit the witness had discarded in the yard the night before was gone the next day.

Around 2 AM they were all awakened by a series of very loud screams they could not identify at the time. The witness later listened to scream recordings on a website and became convinced they matched what the group heard, an assessment the companions reportedly shared.

Four people boating into a cove at Salt Fork heard a loud, bassy sound from a wooded shoreline that was audible over the boat motor and resembled a mechanical siren winding up. The operator shut off the engine to listen. The reporter later said the sound was very close to a posted Ohio Howl audio clip, except closer, and noted a companion reported knocking sounds he did not recall.
