Possible vocalization 4 miles north of Pawling, heard from Appalachian Trail
The witness was hiking alone at night on the Appalachian Trail on the return trip down Corbin Hill. Around 9pm the witness heard a single loud 15-second vocalization that began low as a howl and rose higher as a scream. The witness compared it to a deeper gibbon call and said it did not sound like an owl or coyote. No visual contact or further vocalizations were reported, and the witness stated they could not confirm the source.

The witness was hunting at dusk and scanning a clearing with binoculars from about 200 yards away when two brown creatures were seen foraging in brush. After watching about a minute the witness fired a bow shot to scare them. The larger creature put the smaller on its back and walked about 100 yards away out of sight, after which the witness left quickly for a UTV.

The witness was driving on a curvy back road in the evening when he saw a large dark figure crouching near a bag in the road behind his car. After losing sight of it, he turned around and drove back, then saw a tall black hairy figure walking upright on the side of the road ahead. He watched it for several seconds as it leaped up an embankment and disappeared into tall grass.

In late spring 1985 the witness and a companion were driving in daylight when a tall figure crossed the road in a few strides and entered a field. They reached the spot seconds later but the figure had disappeared from the open field. The witness later described the figure as tall, heavy, hunched and dark with obscured facial features.
