Close encounter experienced while waiting for the school bus near Marion
The witness and his sister were waiting at a rarely used roadside bus stop before sunrise when they smelled a foul odor and heard low grunting that grew louder and more aggressive. A large dark-brown figure then knocked over a small dead tree across the road and ran toward them. Both fled a short distance to their house, with the figure closing to within a few feet before continuing into the woods.

When the blood trail stopped they heard heavy bipedal footsteps pacing, saw a very large dark outline, and heard a guttural warning sound. Feeling threatened, they backed out while the witness held a handgun, and a next-morning search found neither deer nor tracks.
