YESTERDAY (09/01/2024): Hikers hear chatter and whoops of a large animal in Founders Grove, 33mi SE of Eureka
The witness and a companion were hiking the Founders Grove loop just after sunset when the woods went quiet and they heard chattering vocalizations. They felt immediate dread and judged whatever made the sounds to be huge. As they retreated toward their vehicle they heard movement in brush going deeper into the woods, and when the witness whooped back the chatter answered again. They hurried back to their car.

A family group was finishing a hike on a familiar trail when they heard a loud, unfamiliar yell/scream that carried through the woods. Three members of the group who heard it stopped in their tracks, and the group felt watched until they drove away. The reporter noted the sound did not match familiar local animal sounds.

After passing, the witness turned around and returned within about two minutes, but the figure was gone with no other vehicles seen in the area.

Four women driving south on Patricks Point Road near Trinidad in the late afternoon watched a very tall, dark figure walk across the road in front of their car. The figure was described as solid black head to toe, trim with broad shoulders and arms reaching near the knees, moving with a purposeful stride from forested land on one side into thick brush with no visible trail on the other. The occupants were struck by its height, smoothness, and silhouette appearance without visible face or clothing lines, and afterward wondered if it had been a Bigfoot.

On three mornings the witness tried to approach the source with a flashlight, but the sounds moved uphill toward the ridge without any brush noise heard.

Despite searching with a spotlight the witnesses saw nothing and heard no movement through brush, and found nothing the next morning.

Two campers spent a rainy night at a campground after noticing a skunk-like odor on arrival. Through the night they heard ape-like hoots, single-note whistles, repeated wood-on-wood whacks from several directions, heavy two-legged footsteps, and nearby rockslides. They saw nothing in the dark and left the next morning, noting the steep bowl-shaped hillside could carry sounds from far uphill.

The witness and a companion were walking dogs along Redwood Creek in the afternoon and waded across to examine sandbars on the south bank. A short distance upstream they found three large footprints that appeared to enter the water. The clearest print was long and narrow with five toes and no arch, measured at about 14.5 inches with about a 4-foot stride, and no clear exit trail was located.

He described the animal as over seven feet tall, heavily built, with long muscular arms and no visible neck.

He saw a tall, long-haired reddish creature take two steps behind a tree about 40 feet away. During a walk around the lake, the witness found tracks coming out of the shallow water and going into the forest. A team of four was conducting a nighttime sound survey from a clear-cut overlooking a river valley while one member did a live radio interview from a parked vehicle near the treeline. The interviewer heard repeated charging sounds, footfalls and a grunt-growl from dense brush a few feet away while two teammates uphill watched with a night-vision device. The uphill observers reported a huge 8-foot-plus figure about 25 feet away leaning side to side to look through the trees and moving its arms. The episode lasted about 30 minutes, followed later by a distant scream, and a next-day search found disturbed soil but no footprints.
