The witness had followed elk into a canyon while archery hunting and remained out until a cloudy, pitch-black night. While hiking about an hour back toward the road, the witness heard something following, breaking sticks and closing to within 10-15 feet and stopping when the witness stopped. After waiting in a small clearing and then continuing through forest toward the road, the follower circled and came up behind again before stopping at the road.
