Howl in Washington
Account
In the middle of the night at the same camp, the witness woke to rummaging outside, dogs barking then going silent, and a low three-stage howl that vibrated his body and left him feeling paralyzed with fear. His mother tried to wake his father, who refused to leave the tent and called it elk, and the witness next remembered morning. His father showed him a single huge footprint in the sandbar and told him not to tell his mother or sister.
