The witness was driving along a highway beside a river with a companion when he first mistook an animal on an overhanging tree or log for a bear. Looking back, he claimed to see a large ape-like creature crouched over the water with an arm extended toward the river as if trying to catch a fish. He said he clearly saw human-like facial features and was certain it was not a bear.

An investigator interviewed the witness by phone and assessed credibility.
An investigator revisited the sighting location with the witness, could not access the riverbank side, and noted nearby trails, arched saplings and deer scat.
