The witness was driving north on US 60 in the early afternoon when he noticed a large upright animal beside the road partly obscured by a pine. He slowed for about half a minute to watch as it shifted to keep the tree between them while still peeking out and appearing to look at him. He drove on because traffic was coming from behind.

An investigator spoke by phone with the witness four days after the sighting to gather more detail.
The witness returned to the site three hours later but stayed at the road and did not climb through the fence to check for tracks.
