The witness was in bed at home around 2 a.m. when she heard heavy slow footsteps approach along the road, followed by heavy breathing and a strong foul odor. She then heard dogs barking, gunshots, a repeated loud scream, and running footsteps with breaking trees receding into the distance. The next morning a nearby dog was found hiding and footprints were later found by a creek.
