Hiker describes possible vocalizations and rocks thrown at a remote lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness
Account
The witness camped overnight near a lake while on a solo backpacking trip with a dog. After dark the dog growled intermittently and the witness heard paired screams, rock sounds, and repeated hooting exchanges across the valley. Around 2 a.m. rocks landed in shallow water near the tent, followed by a voice-like sound, and at dawn the dog stared into the woods while the witness packed to leave. The witness reports never seeing any animal or person.

Bear scat a few days old on nearby trail
An investigator interviewed the witness by phone, asked the witness to file a report, and later visited the area at night and noted that tent lights and campfires are visible at distance.
