During the 2008 media frenzy after reports of a recovered body, news crews and armed hunters flooded the area seeking access through his creek lot. He recounts a dusk encounter in which a visiting hunter with a large-caliber rifle saw the animal at the woods edge and reacted strongly, and a separate chaotic attempt by local hunters who failed to cross a low fence. He believes the original recovery claim was true and that officials later shut down hunting.
