On the final night after returning from the city, the pair heard loud layered screams, heard walking and trees shaking, and found their camp destroyed with large pushed-over trees piled on it. While hiding in a dug-out hole they watched a figure drop from a distant dead tree and move on all fours like a spider while making strange laugh-like sounds, and the friend reported threatening thoughts. At sunrise they fled, felt paralleled, heard a car skid nearby, and ran many miles out along railroad tracks without returning.
