Vocalization near Little Eagle, South Dakota (1977)
Account
[name withheld] drove about six hours north to the Standing Rock area after TV and newspaper reports of activity around Little Eagle. Camped by a river sleeping in his pickup after a nighttime hilltop watch, he heard three shorter sounds then a very loud prolonged high-pitched howl-wail from about 600 feet away. Dogs in the nearby village and coyotes on a ridge erupted after the sound. The hair on his neck stood up but he did not feel threatened.
