On the afternoon of October 15 the author entered dense brush at the survey work site to examine a fir tree said to have shaken during a reported fight. The lower moss and twigs on the fir were undisturbed except for one broken twig higher up, while the ground was torn up. About 12 feet away the author found large human-like pad prints with a distinctive big toe, one about 15 inches long and another about 14.5 inches long heading toward the tree.

The author re-examined the footprint area and checked an embankment south of the highway, finding a possible large pad print and game trails toward the mountains.
The author phoned the surveying supervisor, who said the crew left until Friday and that he believed it was a Sasquatch based on his own prior similar experiences with bad smell.
The author searched the web about sightings and sounds and read a book on the subject.
The author played internet vocal recordings for family members, who said the whooing sound matched what they heard.

An investigator and a volunteer met the family in town, viewed the activity areas, but physical evidence had deteriorated, and interviewed family about vocalizations.
