Witness describes deeing large pile of scat

The witness and a companion stopped at a scenic lookout after traveling from Willow Creek during a multi-day hiking trip in northern California. The witness walked about 30 feet into brush and found a large pile of scat containing pits similar in size to cherry pits. The witness notes there were no clear tracks or other traces nearby and mentions scattered trash at the lookout. No photos were taken and no animal was seen.
