A man went alone to Taylor's Ridge to pick ginseng while waiting for a friend who never arrived. After noticing movement, he looked up to see a creature standing and watching him, which then turned and walked up a ravine with a limp. He fled and reported it to the sheriff, which eventually led the research team to the area.
