Vocalizations heard near Stanislaus River, CA
Account
On a moonlit December night, the witness hiked down an old logging road to collect sugar-pine cones and paused to enjoy the surroundings. A loud, melodious moaning wail began very close by and lasted about half a minute, rising in pitch before fading. The call was then answered in sequence by two or three more distant calls from across the river canyon. The witness left quietly without seeing anything and later wondered if the calls were a possible encounter.
