Solo camper hears large splash in river
Account
The witness was camping alone near a river and sitting by a low fire around midnight. A large heavy object splashed into the river about 30 feet away, apparently thrown from the opposite bank with great force. The frightened witness fired a shot in the air, illuminated the far bank with a spotlight without seeing anything, then broke camp and left. The witness later recovered a 34-pound volcanic rock from the splash location.
