Odor near Butte, Montana
Account
As a child the guest was picnicking with family near Butte when the guest's father and uncle followed a smell toward a tree line thinking it was a bear. The two men came running back up the slope with a gun held overhead and the family fled to the car. The father appeared shaken and later implied it was not a bear, but did not tell the children details.
