Tracks and feces found in freshly turned field

While preparing a field for planting, workers found large five-toed tracks and two very large cylindrical feces in a freshly plowed field. The tracks led from a grassy area onto a dirt road, into the field where the maker appeared to squat, dig up and eat turtle eggs, then continued into bordering woods. The reporter photographed the sign with a yardstick, made left and right foot casts, and collected fecal and eggshell samples for examination.

An investigator met witnesses, visited the site after rain washed tracks away, viewed a broken overturned shooting house, examined photos and casts for fakery, and sent evidence for analysis with inconclusive results.
A university anthropology professor examined the casts and insisted they were bear tracks despite the witness noting a big toe.
