After staying at a lake cabin, the timber worker walked down an overgrown river during heavy rain and June salmon run and came face to face across about thirty to forty feet with a dark, shaggy creature standing in the river. He describes a long head with small bearded face, yellow eyes with a heavy brow, flat slit nose, long arms, thumbed hands, and a strong rancid wet-dog smell. It stood, turned, and left in a few huge quiet steps through salmonberry brush, leaving him stunned.
